Geologic Time - Understanding Deep Time
|
The next several chapters (21-23) focus on the history of Earth - all 4.5 Billion years of it. This chapter (21) focus on general and background information while the next two chapters focus more specifically on particular time periods in Earth's History.
In Chapter 21, we look at several broad ideas. First, we spend some time looking at "Deep Time" and trying to comprehend the scale we are talking about. We look at the Geologic Time Scale - sort of the "calendar" scientists use to discuss the history of Earth. Much of the rest of the chapter then focuses on the general and more specific ways scientists study the deep past. How can we learn about life and physical processes which took place so long ago? |
